Another successful weekend of racing for the team at Round 3 of the National XC series! We arrived bright and early on a very hot Saturday for practice and set up, the guys seemed super chuffed with the 7 mile course; a long uphill followed by a fast and flowing descent back to the Feed and Tech Area. All the guys chose to run Schwalbe’s Racing Ralph tyres front and rear, though a couple were considering riding Furious Freds! The sun shone strongly down on Shropshire, Gareth was especially looking forward to a hot race as he has been working in Spain recently so was acclimatised to the heat. With practice over, we headed to our hotel for some food and rest before the big day…
Sunday morning. Race Day. The heat was already building; it looked like Gareth had got his wish! The sun was well and truly out and it looked like Sunday was even warmer then the day before. The race was on! 5 fast and furious laps for the Elite riders Jon, Dave and Gareth and 3 laps for Ed in Juniors. The guys gradually picked their way through the pack, feeling the heat but battling on. Dave Henderson finished 9th, Gareth Montgomerie 10th and Jon Pybus 21st. Ed “The Shred” McParland came 8th in the juniors. Useful UCI points for the boys with Gareth currently lying 8th and Dave 9th overall. Well done guys! Role on Scotland for round 4, we can’t wait!
